Born from a Mother's Need
Journey Just Her didn't start as a nonprofit. It started as one mom, exhausted and searching for someone who truly understood what it meant to raise a Black teenage girl in today's world.
How we began
One Mom. One Conversation. A Village.
It started with a phone call. A late night, a frustrated teenager, and a mother who had run out of answers. She reached out to a friend — and that friend reached out to another — and suddenly there were five moms on a call, all saying the same thing: I thought I was the only one.
That call became a weekly ritual. The weekly ritual became a community. And the community became Journey Just Her — a nonprofit built on the radical belief that no mom should have to navigate the teenage years alone, especially when she's raising a Black girl in a world that doesn't always see her daughter the way she does.
Today, Journey Just Her connects hundreds of moms across the country and around the world. We gather virtually, in person, and on the road — always with the same intention: to hold each other up, celebrate our daughters, and build the village our families deserve.
